Come join MaineDOT, the Towns of Brunswick and West Bath, and City of Bath at a public meeting on Saturday May 2nd to help shape the future of the Androscoggin to Kennebec Trail! The meeting will provide an overview of the project and focus on interactive public engagement to shape the outcome of this study. Specific topics include trail design, connectivity, safety, and trail route analysis.
MaineDOT and the municipalities of Brunswick, West Bath, and Bath are working with a consultant team led by TY Lin to conduct a feasibility study and route alternatives analysis for the Androscoggin to the Kennebec (A2K) Trail connecting existing trails across Brunswick, West Bath, and Bath. The study will evaluate possible trail routes including Old Bath/Brunswick Rd, Route 1, and Bath/State Rd to provide a safe and connected route. The goal of this study is to evaluate possible routes before selecting a preferred route and perform an in-depth analysis of design constraints and costs so that project partners can be best suited to secure funding for future phases of trail development. This study will have two in-person public meetings as well as opportunities for online engagement.
A very similar study was completed in 2004 for the A2K Trail, including these same project partners. MaineDOT has determined that a subsequent study should be completed so that the project can be better suited to seek competitive funding for future trail construction phases that are based on updated planning, cost estimates, and analysis of possible trail routes. When this study is complete it is expected that the study report, public engagement, and technical analysis will be able to assist MaineDOT and the municipal partners in seeking funding to progress the development of the trail.
