A-spec-tacular Birding Odyssey ~ Birding Extravaganza

A-spec-tacular Birding Odyssey

Join BTLT and expert birder Jan Pierson for a relaxed and engaging walk through the rich habitats of Androscoggin Woods. We’ll look and listen for spring favorites like bobolinks, swallows, warblers, and sparrows—and maybe spot a few late migrants still passing through. All levels of birders are welcome!

Jan Pierson is one of the founders of Field Guides Bird Tours and a veteran of more than 40 years of international birding and guiding. He has traveled far and wide to all continents, yet some of his favorite birding experiences remain simple ones: spring warbler migration, savoring good, long looks at birds, be they rare or common, tropical or temperate, and watching other birders thrill at their first-time discoveries.

We recommend bringing binoculars if you have them and study walking shoes. Some binoculars will be provided for those who don’t have any. Be mindful that it is tick season so please prepare accordingly.

When: Wednesday, may 14 at 7:30 am - 9:00 am

Where: Androscoggin Woods, 1074 Lewiston Road, Topsham, ME, 04086, Maine

There’s nothing quite like that first burst of birdsong on a spring morning – or spotting a flash of color in the trees as birds return from their winter travels. As the days grow longer and the air warms up, feathered friends of all shapes and sizes make their way back to Maine. And before the trees fully leaf out, it’s the perfect time to see them up close. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just bird-curious, Spring Birding Extravaganza is for everyone! This annual celebration brings together local conservation groups to offer a variety of free, welcoming bird walks and events across the region. Come learn, explore, and enjoy the wonder of spring migration with us. We are pleased to partner with Kennebec Estuary Land Trust, Harpswell Heritage Land Trust, and Maine Coast Heritage Trust to offer a variety of birding events this spring.

In order to give more people an opportunity to experience these wonderful walks, we are requesting individuals only register for one walk each. Thank you!
