Join us in welcoming our Summer Stewards!

This summer, KELT has the pleasure of hosting four fantastic summer stewards as part of our paid Internship program. Each year mentor our stewards in education, stewardship, and science as they help support our work on land, water, and in the office. We are proud to play a role in shaping the next generation of stewards and scientists. Meet our summer steward squad!

Our Summer Land Stewards, Dylan Canarelli and Kaia Williams have been working to maintain and manage protected lands in the Southern Midcoast as part of the Regional Field Team, which is made possible through a collaboration of KELT, Brunswick Topsham Land Trust (BTLT), and Phippsburg Land Trust (PLT). Mia Bebko, our Summer Program Steward, has been hard at work supporting KELT’s Kids Summer Day Camp and assisting with the Land Trust’s day-to-day operations. Dillon Mulhern, our Summer Restoration Steward, has been conducting research to help identify suitable sites for new tidal habitat restoration projects.

Dylan Canarelli

Dylan is grateful for the opportunity to benefit the environment of midcoast Maine and work alongside passionate people. With a profound appreciation for the natural world, he is energized to protect it. Dylan is a rising senior at Bowdoin College majoring in History and German.

KAIA WILLIAMS

Kaia Williams is a rising senior at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. She is a double major in Environment, Sustainability, & Society, and Spanish & Latin American Studies with a minor in Environmental Science. With WWLT she learned about land stewardship, monitoring, and outreach. The following summer of 2020, Kaia interned with the Air Bureau of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection as an Emissions Inventory & Outreach Specialist. Kaia is excited to be back in land stewardship and continue to learn about land conservation with KELT this summer.

DILLON MULHERN

Born and raised in Durham, New Hampshire, Dillon moved to the midcoast in April 2020. He graduated in December 2020 from the University of New Hampshire with a double major in Neuroscience and Behavior, and Communication, and a minor in Plant Biology. While studying at UNH, Dillon helped conduct Habitat Restoration research at the Jackson Estuary Laboratory in New Hampshire, where he found his passion for the preservation of natural communities and salt marshes. That experience, and his passion for the outdoors, led him to Kennebec Estuary Land Trust. He is excited to continue to work to protect and restore natural habitats.
