Community Science
What is community science?
Community science is a collaborative approach to research that actively involves members of the public in the scientific process. Community science invites people of all backgrounds and experience levels to contribute by collecting data and sharing observations - with the goal of solving important local problems. These inclusive programs not only expand the reach and impact of scientific research, but also empower communities to better understand and address issues that affect their environment and daily lives.
Why is KELT involved?
Here at KELT, we engage with community science to deepen our understanding of the landscapes we protect, while building stronger connections with our community. By involving volunteers in activities like wildlife monitoring and water quality testing, we can gather valuable data that informs the ways in which we steward these woods and waters. At the same time, these programs fosters a sense of shared care - helping everyone to feel connected to this special region of Maine.
