Bittner Property Project

This is an urgent opportunity to protect a treasured, local outdoor resource!

In rapidly developing West Bath, the Bittner Property project will safeguard multi-use trails for local folks as well as forest & wetlands for local plants & wildlife.

Help us to conserve nearby nature in West Bath & to protect multi-use trails you love!

Project Details

Your support of this project will:

Improve public access to the Bittner Property’s charming woods and trails. This means: new trailheads to visit the existing trail network, novel spots for birders and wildlife watchers, chances to sustainably expand and improve mountain biking and ATV trails, and new paths to explore by hikers, pet-walkers, snowshoers, backcountry XC skiers, hunters, and more.

Keep the forest and wetlands as whole, healthy habitats. This hidden-gem of a landscape supports vernal pool havens for amphibians, bubbling streams, shrub and moss covered wetlands, and towering forests of pine, oak, hemlock, and maple. It’s home to many plants, mammals, reptiles, insects, and birds that make this corner of Maine so special. KELT needs your support to prevent these habitats from being destroyed or fragmented by development.

Property Features:

  • 165 acre parcel that helps link together existing land trust & town owned properties

  • Conserves existing, well used, mountain biking & ATV trails currently on private land that are vital parts of the 20+mile regional trail system

  • Opens opportunities to create new trailheads in West Bath & Bath

  • Stunning nature to become accessible for exploration & enjoyment by new visitors, like hikers, bikers, hunters, snowshoers, pet walkers, birders, ATV riders, and more

  • Part of a large, state-recognized undeveloped forest of over 1,500 acres vital for plants and wildlife

KELT will use our years of experience as a community-focused land trust to balance needs of visitors and needs of wildlife. There are ways for us all to enjoy and to protect this beloved, wild landscape.
