Birding Extravaganza ~ Intro to Birding (virtual)

Conservation Organizations offer series of birding walks in the Midcoast Region

One of the joys of spring is the return of birds of all shapes, sizes and colors. Who doesn’t love stepping outside to a chorus of birdsong or catching a glimpse of bright red or yellow in the trees? The new warmth of spring and the longer days draws birds to make their spring migration. The window of time before the leaves come out provides a perfect opportunity to get a good look at our spring migrants. To help you identify and learn more about our local birds, several conservation groups collaborate each spring to offer the Birding Extravaganza!

All events are free and open to all. Advance registration is required and each organization follows COVID-19 policies to keep everyone safe. Visit the website for each organization for more information.

Intro to Birding (virtual)

Wednesday, May 12 from 6:30-8 p.m. via Zoom.

You will receive an email with information on how to join the program.

This Intro to Birding session will present basic guidelines and hints for identifying birds, with emphasis on appropriate habitat as found on the various Harpswell Heritage Land Trust preserves. The illustrations will focus on the most common birds found in Harpswell.

We will also review both print and online birding resources which everyone can use to discover where to find and how to identify birds. Hopefully everyone will leave with greater enthusiasm for birding and more tools for enjoying this life-long activity!

Judy Marino has experience as a high school teacher and a software developer. After retiring, she used both of these skills to teach herself more about birds, to connect with other birders and to try to keep up with ever-expanding birding software resources. She considers herself a ‘mid-level’ birder who is close enough to being a new learner that she remembers her early challenges and likes to help others avoid some beginner pitfalls.

Organized by Harpswell Heritage Land Trust.
