Overdue ThanksLaura Sewall, former Executive Director of the Kennebec Estuary Collaboration; Tom Barrington, outgoing Treasurer; and Chris Fichtel, former Steering Committee memberFebruary 25, 2009Overdue thanks were extended to three very dedicated members of the land trust at a special meeting of membership on February 24th. Jack Witham presented a signed photograph by Heather Perry of Thorne Head to Tom Barrington, one of the founders of the Lower Kennebec Regional Land Trust, a former pPresident, as well as outgoing Treasurer. Tom served as Treasurer for the last 5 years, in addition to performing extensive stewardship work at Thorne Head. Monthly he delivers a stack of trail maps to the preserve and annually he guides a group of Morse High School freshmen to clean up the trails. He was the driver behind the fundraising campaign to acquire the property in 1998. Chris Fichtel, committed member of the Oversight Committee of the Kennebec Estuary Collaboration was also presented with a photograph by Heather Perry of Brookings Bay. Chris recently moved to Reno, Nevada far from the ocean that he loves, but closer to family. Laura Sewall, the founding Executive Director for the Kennebec Estuary Collaboration was presented with a signed print by Sally Loughridge of Sasanoa River Buoy. Laura took the South Bristol artist on several boat trips in the Kennebec Estuary so she could gather inspiring photographs for a June 2009 art show of landscapes along the Estuary. Laura led the Kennebec Estuary Collaboration, a two year partnership between the Lower Kennebec Regional Land Trust and the Phippsburg Land Trust. She found office space, hired staff and was the creator of many foundational papers, including the Strategic Conservation Plan which will continue to guide our conservation efforts. Laura is now the Director of Bate's College Morse Mountain Property in Phippsburg.
