Tour a private conservation property with Noreen Blaiklock, an
expert on the healing properties of wild and edible plants. Bring eyes, ears, notebook and camera; limited walking. Register & receive directions by calling KELT at 442-8400. Limited to 12 participants.
A Boy’s Life on Merrymeeting Bay

Guided walk of KELT’s Merrymeeting Fields Preserve on Chops Point by Hayden Temple, the 5th generation of his family to live on the property. In 1720 Robert Temple ran a garrison on Chopps Point. Meet at trail head with sturdy walking shoes. Part of Woolwich’s 250th celebration. FREE

Hike with Morse High School Environmental Science student, Jill Brown. A KELT volunteer, Jill is researching the land use history of this preserve which has lovely views of Brighams Cove and down the New Meadows River, in addition to a curious geologic bedrock inclusion. Route 209 to Campbell Pond Road, 1 mile turn onto Birch Point Road. Roadside parking on the left. FREE
Mud Plants of Chops Creek

Chop’s Creek supports an abundance of rare aquatic vegetation. Barbara Vickery, Director of Conservation Programs at The Nature Conservancy, will lead us to a private conserved property where these unusual plants flourish in a special freshwater tidal environment. Examples are Parker’s pipewort (Eriocaulon parkeri), water pimpernel (Samolus valerandi) and spongy arrowhead (Sagittaria calycina). Come with appropriate footwear for exploring a muddy intertidal area - these are affectionately known as “mud plants”! Register & receive directions by calling KELT at 442-8400. FREE
Kayak Merrymeeting Bay (with Maine Maritime Museum)

Explore the beauty of Merrymeeting Bay, paddle alongside seals, ospreys, eagles. This 4-hour expedition is lead by registered Maine Guides and
Alicia Heyburn, Outreach Director of KELT. Together they will help interpret the extraordinary ecological vitality and abundant wildlife along with the current challenges facing this unique place. Kayak, paddle, PFD provided. Register with Maine Maritime Museum at 443-1316. Special price for KELT members. $60. Minimum age 12.
Tip to Tail on Bath's Newest Trail!
Saturday, September 19 9:30-11:30am
Guided tour by foot or mountain bike of Whiskeag Trail, the inaugural project of Bath Trails. A 4-mile trail connecting the YMCA to Thorne Head Preserve, through Oak Grove Cemetery and winding along lovely Whiskeag Creek. Meet at the Bath YMCA parking lot, a shuttle will return hikers to the YMCA. FREE
